Riverside Projects

RURAL MEN AS PARTNER’S Culture and Health program is a joint project between Radio Riverside and Aids Foundation South Africa (AFSA). The station through the funding of AFSA has set up three focus groups of 25 men in Keimoes, Leseding and Kanoneiland. These men come together  once a month to discuss subjects like ‘ What characteristics should men posses in order to be viewed as a real and respected man in the community? How are men seen or portrayed in the media in SA? How do these portrays affect the attitude to men in SA? Do you think these portrayals are correct?’ These topics and views of men are then broadcasted on Radio Riverside weekly. The project purpose is to use the radio medium as a means to stimulate positive social and behavioural change in the broadcasting reception of the station. The station will also host training workshops for rural men on sexual reproductive health and how men can become responsible caring husbands and partners. The workshops will be hosted in Raaswater, Lennertsville, Ntsikelelo, Leerkrans and Sesbrugge.
